Hello from snowy Colorado. We have been hitting the slopes this week at Monarch and I have been having a great time. The weather has cooperated and it has been beautiful! Today I even attempted a jump. Reports say that I caught about 3 feet of air! I landed successfully but… unfortunately I then fell… pretty hard.

No worries though. My hip broke the fall.

It has been the one and only time that I have fallen all week. Apparently I live by the creed of “anything worth doing is worth doing big.”

I’ve been listening to my iPod on the slopes. I know to some that sounds like sacrilege but I feel that the mountain experience is enhanced by a great soundtrack. Here are a handful of the tracks that have made for a Ski-tastic playlist this week.

No Line On The Horizon by U2
Hot Fun In The Summer Time by Sly and the Family Stone
Use Somebody by Kings of Leon
Limelight by Rush
Numb by Linkin Park
Best of You by Foo Fighters
Misery Business by Paramore
Stand Up Comedy by U2
Just Like Heaven by The Cure
Hysteria by MUSE
When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin
Good Life by Kanye West

I hope everyone has a great spring break. We head for home on Wednesday and would really appreciate your prayers. Take it easy and enjoy the playlist.

peace,
Felker

I had such a great time at Austin City Limits this year! All in all I saw about 20 full sets from bands that ran the musical gambit from screamo to folk. Here are some pics from Friday and Saturday.

This is the first view of the park I saw as I arrived on the scene Friday afternoon. So much music, so little time.

I left ACL last year as Bob Dylan played on the AT&T stage. The first artist I saw at this year’s ACL was his son, Jakob Dylan, playing on the AT&T stage. “ingonyama bagithi Baba, ingonyama bagithi Baba- It’s the Circle of Life…”

Next up was Jamie Lidell. He closed his set with his hit “Multiply.” Very Motown, very hip.

M. Ward put on a great show. The tent was packed so this was the best shot I could get.

The Jenny Lewis show was my favorite part of Friday. I play her song “Rise Up With Fists!!!” all the time. My wife hates that song. I love it. Like M. Ward, the tent was full and she put on a very entertaining show that had her playing guitar and piano. The set reminded me of last year’s favorite Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

Scottish Rock

CSS is a band from Brazil. They had a song featured on the iPod Touch commercial. Music is my (Not So) Hot, Hot Unitard

Robert Earl Keen’s road went on for just an hour and the party ended right before John Fogerty.

I almost missed John Fogerty. He played a ton of CCR songs and had the entire audience singing along. Great set and the man’s still got it.

Robert Plant and Allison Krauss was the show to see on Saturday night. Some guy named Beck was on the other side of the park but who cares. Allison Krauss has the voice of an angel and Robert Plant kept his shirt on. They sang an awesome reinterpretation of Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” that I absolutely loved. Great seats. Great songs. Great Night.

It was a scary couple of days. I couldn’t figure out what had happened to my blog and then once it came back up I was missing 12 weeks worth of posts. Thankfully everything is back to normal. I even had a chance to tweak a couple of minor things on the site as well.

It has been a wild summer. I have barely had a moment to breathe or to sit and reflect on everything that has happened. I think that has been the only negative aspect of my hectic summer. Next year I might have to build in reflection days to my summer schedule.

We just returned from a few days in Chicago. We had a wonderful time in the Windy City. I got a chance to take my wife, my sister-in-law, and her husband to see Wicked. I had seen it on Broadway last year but none of them had been able to see it. It was superb! I thought the singing was even better than what I had seen in New York. Kudos to the Chicago cast for a terrific job.

When we arrived home I had a box from Amazon waiting on our doorstep. It contained two of my fall reading books: Jesus Mean and Wild and Questions to All Your Answers. I will start them here in the next few weeks. If anyone wants to read along with me let me know.

Tomorrow is our anniversary. We have been married for 6 years. I can hardly believe it but it is true. Hopefully we can hang on at least another 6 years. It won’t be so hard for me- I’m married to a saint. She has her hands full though.

Have a great weekend.
